Visit with us the magical Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which is in many ways considered a microcosm of the whole island with its craters, lava flows, fjords, sandy beaches and high cliffs. It also is home to the mystical shining glacier Snæfellsjökull (or doorway to inner space), the starting point of Jules Verne’s Classic, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

After an early start from Reykjavik we will take off northbound, driving underneath Iceland’s legendary Whalefjord before we arrive at Borgarnes, home to the Settlement Center of Iceland. Here you can, with a nice cup of coffee in your hands, learn about the Settlement history of Iceland. Continuing on west, soon Snæfellsnes will give you a first impression of its unique beauty and weather allowing you will catch a first glimpse of the imposing glacier Snæfellsjökull.
We will begin our explorations of the peninsula at the North Atlantic waterfront on a route that includes stops in the fishing community of Arnastapi, the moving shipwreck bay at Djupalon (here also four weighty stones present an age-old test of strength. To compete for spots on a fishing boat crew, men through the ages would lift one of these stones to hip level. Feel free to try!). Tales of seafaring exploits will come to live here for all of us!
The area is breathtaking with its impressive coastline, teaming birdlife, bright yellow beaches, black and green lava fields, waterfalls and caves and gives us endless possibilities for exciting explorations.
Arriving back in Reykjavik in the evening, an outstanding day comes to close having filled our souls with unforgettable memories.
